Melbourne Victory FC

Melbourne Victory FC have been a leading supporter of the women of Afghanistan, hosting the Melbourne Victory AWT team in Melbourne, Australia, providing coaching, training, pastoral and welfare support to the team since their evacuation.

In August 2021, global football union FIFPro and human rights advocates and agencies helped evacuate more than 75 women footballers from Afghanistan.

The PFA, backed by FIFPro and public donations, has proudly supported the Afghanistan Women's National Team players who have settled in Australia.

Providing a range of support programs and ser

In August 2021, global football union FIFPro and human rights advocates and agencies helped evacuate more than 75 women footballers from Afghanistan.

The PFA, backed by FIFPro and public donations, has proudly supported the Afghanistan Women's National Team players who have settled in Australia.

Providing a range of support programs and services, including:

  • Wellbeing support through the MindRoom, the PFA confidential counselling program
  • Education grants of $1500 to assist the players in their personal and professional development
  • Special Afghanistan Women's Team grants, allowing them to apply for their driver's licence, car insurance and gym membership
  • Career counselling and advice
  • English lessons
  • Education workshops
  • Tax and financial advice
  • Resume and job readiness support

The PFA is honoured to support these extraordinary women, who have shown enormous courage in pursuing their football passion, acting as role models, and providing a voice for those whose rights as women have been stripped away.

Sport and Rights Alliance

The Sport & Rights Alliance is a global coalition of leading NGOs and trade unions working together to embed human rights and anti-corruption across sport and promote the rights and well-being of those most affected by the impacts of sport.

Hummel have been supporting the Afghanistan Women's National Team for a number of years, producing their iconic Lioness kit that has been a source of pride for the team.
